Posted 10/17/13 10:00 am EST by MTV News
And this year, Stephen King's horror classic "Carrie" gets drenched in pig's blood once more. A remake hits theaters this week—a brand-new scare brought to you in hi-def by Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer and "Boys Don't Cry" director Kimberly Peirce.
So put on your cutest prom dress, grab a handful of sanitary napkins and do these five things before catching this frightening flick.
Read the book
A story this twisted could only come from the mind of one Stephen King. The 1974 book was his first published novel, which he refers to as a reverse-Cinderella story. It's iconic American horror at its best, and it's a great companion to any adaptation, old or new.
Watch the first "Carrie"
Brian De Palma brought the terrifying tale of Carrie White to the big screen first in 1976. Sissy Spacek played the original Carrie, and got an Oscar nod for a performance that has unsettled millions of viewers for nearly 40 years. Chloe—given the creeptastic roles she has nailed in the past—is sure to deliver similar chills.
Go to prom
The high school prom is ground zero for Carrie's epic meltdown. Head to a prom (or any dance will do!), actively campaign for the title of prom queen and pretend to look shocked when you accept your crown. Just make sure you look up and determine that there aren't any buckets of pig's blood hanging overhead...
Move things with your mind
Telekinesis may or may not be physically possible, but you never know until you try. Concentrate. And if you do find that you can move objects with your brain waves, just promise us that you'll use your powers for good, k?
BONUS: Don't shower in the school locker rooms
After you watch the famous blood-soaked shower scene, trust us, you won't want to even go there.
Do you plan to see "Carrie" this weekend?
