Comic Book Artists Going to C2E2 Be Prepared!
Comic Book Artists looking to put work in front of peeps at C2E2 this year, pay attention to what Jill Thompson is saying to you.
Get it together! Be prepared!
Want to show me or a comics editor your portfolio at C2E2 or some other convention?
Here's a few rules as to what your book should include...
- Your best and most recent work!
- And by this I mean pages of sequential storytelling!
- You must draw establishing shots of interior or exteriors of locations.
- Those interiors and backgrounds and exteriors must use Perspective!
- Show your characters in closeup, midshot and long shot.
- Don't letter, ink or color your pages unless you are really good at it. Finished pencils Are great!
- You need to show that you can draw everyday objects to make your storytelling have a rich environment! So, if your character is in a kitchen, make it look like one! Appliances, stuff on the counter, shelving, clock, table, chairs, dishes in the sink, coffee pot half full...everything to dress your set!!
- Keep the pin ups limited to two at most...
- If you are looking for a cover gig, show cover designs and other illustrations where you've incorporated text or a logo into the design.
